How to choose
Hearing protection devices, regulated by the CE EN 352 standard, are intended to protect the user’s hearing. Prolonged exposure over time to noise sources beyond the permissible threshold leads to damage that can become irreversible.
Ear protection is particularly important because the damage caused to hearing is irreversible: damaged hearing cells can no longer regenerate. Daily or even temporary exposure to noise sources above the 80 dB threshold can cause hearing loss of varying degrees. It is essential, in noisy places, that the use of hearing protection is continuous in order to benefit from the advantages offered by PPE. Temporary or partial use of PPE does not provide any protection and introduces the risk of potential permanent hearing loss.
The European directive obliges companies to provide workers with PPE for hearing protection if the threshold of 80 dB is exceeded in the workplace. The use of hearing protection is however highly recommended even below the normal limits.
To ensure safety and comfort for the person, the noise must be reduced to the recommended sound level, it must not be higher but not lower either as an excessive reduction in the perception of the surrounding environment can be dangerous and the operator could be exposed to risks.
